Pet humanisation has resulted in a much stronger focus on pet health and in particular on pet food as owners have become more concerned than ever before about what their pets are eating, which ingredients are used and how these are sourced.

In a recent Euromonitor report it can be seen that those who treat their pets better than their family members have the tendency to humanise and over indulge their pets. Over indulging pets has vast implications for the overall well-being of the pet and can be seen as “killing them with kindness”.

What are the ways that pets can be over-humanised?

Over nearly 6 million pets are given treats as part of their daily diet, including crisps, cake, leftovers of human food, cheese chips and takeaways, This however, is leading to overweight animals with a survey revealing that 30% of dog owners and 18% of cat owners think their pet is overweight.

It is very important that pets are kept fit and healthy to prolong their life and this does involve feeding them a healthy diet. Obesity has a very negative impact on pets, not only making them more vulnerable to certain illnesses but also impending their recovery when they are ill or injured.

However, there are various ways which you can treat a pet without overindulging them and creating excess weight. At Paws Pet Food we have formulated 5 new recipes as part of a brand new Functional Treat Range which target 5 specific functional benefits. In pursuit of a more preventative approach to staying healthy, we have provided a more conscious nutritional alternative for treating and indulging pets without the risks.

Functional pet treats are growing ever more popular amongst pet owners who are focused on nutrition and wellness, so stay tuned to find out more information for the launch of your new Functional Treat Range and how you can add this into your pets diet.
