Introduction to Labelling
All labels from GA are produced to the FEDIAF Code of Labelling Practice for Pet Food.
FEDIAF represents the national pet food industry associations in the EU, Norway and Switzerland and is the spokesman for approximately 130 companies across Europe.
Feeding pet animals with safe pet food for a long healthy life is the prime objective of the European pet food industry.
In order to achieve this, FEDIAF and its members are concerned with the entire manufacturing process through to the placing on the market of pet food and providing relevant information for the ultimate customer.
Purpose of a label
The prime purpose of a label is to facilitate the buying act of the purchaser by delivering clear, concise, accurate, true and honest information on the composition, characteristics and use of the product.
Who is the food for?
Your recipes will always state on the label the animal species and category of animals.
- A complete pet food for Puppies, Kittens, Cats, Dogs, Fish, Large Breed, Small Breed, Senior and Light
- Complete pet food provides all the nutrients your pet requires each day, when fed as instructed
- A complementary pet food for Cats, Dogs, Rabbits and Guinea Pigs
- Complementary pet food is either intended to be mixed with something else (e.g. a wet food mixed with a mixer biscuit), or it could be intended as a snack or treat for the pet, either to help maintain his well-being e.g. dental treats, or as part of the daily interaction with a pet (extra nibbles!)
It is VERY important to ensure the correct balance between complete pet food and complementary food e.g. treats are monitored to avoid pets gaining unnecessary weight.
