You will notice subtle differences between your old Data Sheets compared with the new updated Product Guides. The new EU Commission 2017/2279 regulations require GA to update the way we declare some of these values.
New Names?
Crude Oils & Fats are now declared as – Crude Fat
Crude Fibres are now declared as – Crude Fibre
These values are monitored after every production run to ensure we are continually meeting the declared values on your packaging within the legal tolerances.
New Numbers?
You will notice that analytical constituent values have changed.
After a full review of over 800 raw materials, we have been working hard to provide you with the most accurate and up to date values for future declarations.
Legal tolerances
EU Legislation 2017/2279 permits legal tolerances for declared values of the analytical constituents. This is to allow for raw material variation.
Here at Paws Pet Food, we work closely with our suppliers to ensure our raw materials comply with EU Legislation specifications, but we do allow a legal tolerance. As the legislation states it would be impossible for us to release products without any tolerances at all.
NFE
Nitrogen Free Extract is essentially the carbohydrate content of the recipe. In order to calculate this you can use the following sums.
MOPFA stands for Moisture, Oil, Protein, Fibre & Ash.
100 – MOPFA = NFE%
Or
100 – Moisture- Crude Fat- Crude Protein- Crude Fibre- Crude Ash= NFE%
Metabolisable Energy (ME) kcal/100g
This is the calorific content of the recipe. Legislation 2017/2279 requires Paws Pet Food to use a new 4 step calculation provided by the National Research Council (2006). This is a predictive equation to calculate Metabolisable Energy in prepared pet foods and has now been made the industry standard.
